Ah, the allure of the 8th house. Pluto’s territory. Ruler of Scorpio. If you were to ask me what one of my favorite subjects to do a deep dive on naturally it would be this. It should come as no surprise considering I have multiple 8th house placements. Before I understood anything about astrology or the birth chart I was mildly disappointed with my Sun sign. My Sun is in the sign of Leo and I never quite identified with the archetype of Leo. That was until I discovered that my Sun resides in the 8th house, and then everything changed.
Those of us with prominent 8th house or Scorpio placements as well as those who have Pluto as their chart ruler possess an inherent capacity to scower the deep psyche. This is the ultimate investigator. The ability to pierce through hidden truth. The perpetual transmutation of energy, woven into the fabric of our being. We have the ability to naturally attract and repel. It is intense and attractive and scary all at once.
I like to refer to the 8th house as the “psychological basement.” How often do we sift through that which has been passed down upon us? Do we willingly search or wait until it is absolutely dire? This is the area of life where we hold our secrets. Every 8th houser has a plethora of secrets. There’s something special and juicy about these hidden treasures that exist within the depth of the 8th house. It is fear and wisdom intertwined. The excavation of this sacred shadow ultimately leads to self empowerment. We hid these things from ourselves on purpose. Only to find them in divine timing, guided to accept and embody them.
Pluto is the ultimate alchemist. With Pluto as your chart ruler or touching any of your personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus) you attract intense experiences as a catalyst to transform you. You certainly could never lead a boring life. You are the physical representation of the phoenix. Cast into darkness to die a metaphorical death only to emerge stronger, brighter, and better than before. Over and over and over again. There is a lack of control here that is meant to teach us to lean into the fear or anxiety that may be present. That is our superpower. To allow ourselves to lose, surrender, and fall into the abyss with trust in our heart. Pluto’s goal here is purification on a monumental scale.
Scorpio (as well as the 8th house) shows you what (and where) your gifts are. This is the realm of Karma and generational gifts. We are the shamans and the sorceresses. There is a natural affinity toward the occult and its practices with Scorpio and the 8th house. The draw is always there. The desire to immerse ourselves wholly into the unknown is strong. It is an appetite that is seemingly endless.
The enigma of these placements is largely manufactured. Sure we might be extremely private but what you see is what you get. There is no fluff with the 8th house, Pluto dominant individuals, or Scorpio placements. No room for surface level anything. Are we misunderstood? Perhaps. But we are also courageous, relentless, and fiercely determined. We bind, and dismantle. We are masters of change and growth.
As we seek out and merge with our darkness we are here to show the collective that with that sort of integration, we all can be truly unstoppable.
